Flipping the Story on Disability and Violence Book Cover 2026
Open Arts Minnesota was pleased to be included in this new publication by Routledge. The authors provide research evidence about how the protection systems have not prevented people from abuse and violence and may actually cause greater isolation for people with disabilities. They talk about how societal attitudes contribute to the continuing problem of violence and how “Upstream” work at the societal level needs to occur. They feature how the arts can help at the societal level to strengthen advocacy/leadership skills/personal agency, create community and change societal perceptions on disability.

Cast members of Boxes
The United We Stand Players completed a successful run of their original show called, Boxes on April 24th and 25th in New Ulm. The group was thrilled by the overwhelming support of our audience. We brought in 4 large boxes of food during the show and these were donated to the New Ulm Area Food Shelf. The group will begin a new theatre season on May 26th!
This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.
